The 2008 ‘cruising’ season officially
started for us this past Valentine’s Day weekend as we joined 16 other San
Juan Island Yacht Club boats on its “Freeze” cruise to Deer Harbor
on Orcas Island. It rained our 1st
day/night out and then the weather turned to spring with daytime highs in
the low 50’s and the sun warmed us as well. The 3 pictures, enclosed, were
taken at Deer Harbor and the 1st is of us on the bow of AirWaves;
the 2nd is Maria christening AirWaves (which, though she is now
2-years old has not been done) by striking a bottle of champagne over her
while 45+ people watched in the celebration; the 3rd was taken
this morning just after sunrise and shows a magnificent bluff with San Juan
Island off beyond San Juan channel.
We plan to return to Friday Harbor tomorrow and the day promises
to be a repeat of today with east winds of 10-knots so we’ll be able to sail
home.
